How to Prepare

If you are one of our current clients, here is a rundown of what you will need to bring and an idea of how much prep time you will need to set aside for yourself.

How to Organize Your Tax Documents

Instructions for Individual Filing

We mail out a client tax organizer in mid-January each year to most clients, so that you can easily gather your tax documents and other information into one place. If you have worked with us in the past, the organizer will include your financial information from the previous year for your reference.

Please gather tax documents such as Forms W-2, 1099, and any Schedules K-1. If all your tax information is reported to you on these documents, then there is no need to do anything other than provide them.

Instructions for Business Filing

If your individual return includes a Schedule C business or rental, or you need us to prepare a business return, we will need a copy of your detailed depreciation schedules for both regular and alternative minimum tax purposes.

Note for small business clients who are working with us for the first time: The detailed depreciation schedules are generally not included in the prior year’s tax return. You will need to obtain them from your former accountant.

If you use bookkeeping software for your business or rental property, you can provide those reports instead of filling out the organizer.

If you do not use the organizer, please return it to us along with your other tax information.

What you’ll need to bring for current year tax preparation:

  • Copy of last tax return filed
  • Tax reporting documents (Form W-2, Form 1099, etc)
  • Expense documents such as Form 1098 and property tax statement
  • Summary of Income and expenses for a business
  • Summary of Income and expenses for a rental
  • Depreciation schedules for a business or rental
  • Closing statement for house sale or purchase

What you’ll need to bring for tax planning:

  • Copy of last tax return filed
  • Documents related to planning such as:
    • closing statements
    • current pay stubs
    • business income and expenses

Schedule an Appointment with a Tax Accountant

Appointments are scheduled Monday–Tuesday and Thursday–Saturday.

At your appointment, we will review your tax documents and other information to determine if anything is missing and answer any questions, you may have. We also welcome you to drop off or mail your tax documents, and we will follow up by email or phone.

We prepare all Federal and Oregon returns electronically, and will email you to notify you that your returns are completed. Afterward, you will then need to come to our office to pick up the copy or copies of your returns, sign the electronic filing authorization Form 8879, and pay our fees.

Current clients can make an appointment with Carrie using her online calendar.
